Custom software or an off-the-shelf tool?

Not every problem needs a new system. Off-the-shelf tools are quicker to start with and spread development costs across many customers. If one of them fits your process well, it is usually the better choice, and I will tell you so in our first conversation.

When an existing tool is enough

When the process is common in your market, when the adjustments you need are small and when the subscription cost is low compared to what you gain from the tool.

When custom software pays off

When your process has rules the tools don’t support, when the team wastes time copying information between systems, when you pay for several overlapping subscriptions or per staff member, or when the system is part of what sets your business apart.

A middle path

Often the best solution is to keep the tools that work and build only what is missing: an integration between them, a panel that brings the data together or an automation for the task nobody wants to do.
